Vision America Action's mission is to inform, encourage and mobilize pastors and their congregations to be proactive in restoring Judeo-Christian values to the moral and civic framework in their communities, states, and our nation. Vision America is all about empowering the “shepherds” to lead their “flocks” back into being salt in our nation.
The purpose of this booklet is to give a reasoned and scriptural defense of why preachers in America, who adhere to the Bible as the Word of God, have a responsibility before God to reject the false teaching, prevalent in American society, that pastors should not be involved in making public policy nor engaged in politics. My intention in this booklet is to confront the wrongheaded idea that the Constitution of the United States forbids such involvement. These two prevailing myths threaten to undermine our freedoms and pave the way to an unprecedented era of tyranny in America.
I often tell preachers in speeches across the country that if pastors refuse to address the great issues of our culture, Biblically, from their pulpits, they will live to see professional politicians begin to pass laws that reward evil and punish those who stand for God’s truth. In Isaiah 5:20, Isaiah speaks to our day:
“Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!”
We are living in such an era now. The Congress of the United States, led by the Obama Administration, recently passed a bill calling for the end of the ban on homosexuals serving in our military, ending the Clinton policy of “don’t ask, don’t tell,” and more than 230 years of American military tradition. This policy was signed into law September 20, 2011. In June of 2013 The United States Supreme Court ruled that the federal Defense of Marriage Act discriminates against same-sex couples and that the federal government must treat all married couples equally. A few months later, then Secretary of Defense, Leon Panetta issued a memo stating that the Department of Defense will interpret all words such as “spouse” and “marriage” as applying equally to gays and lesbians, and that this would result in full military benefits for same-sex couples. These rulings will ultimately force every chaplain who adheres to Biblical morality to resign from the military or change their clear Biblical views.
